Summary

This robot is a smaller version of our LT2 and HD2 tanks but built with the same high level of quality. It is not a cheap plastic imported robot that will disappoint you. Instead, it has a strong and robust welded aluminum chassis that will stand the test of time. We sell two versions of it, an RC version and a programmable version. The RC version robot includes a Spektrum DX5eTransmitter with AR600 Receiver to wirelessly drive the robot. The programmable version includes an Arduino Uno Programable Controller, which along with sensors enable the robot to be an autonomous platform.

This robot is intended to be a small, maneuverable, customizable, tracked robot platform and it performs exceptionally well for its size. The robot comes with a welded aluminum chassis, wheels hubs and tracks. Each track is driven by a planetary gear motor delivering smooth reliable power. The sprocket wheels are mounted directly to the motor output shaft and an idler wheel is bolted to the chassis. The tracks are molded 4 ply seamless tracks offering exceptional strength and quality. The motor and track combination allow this robot to go over most terrain, yet its size makes it very maneuverable indoors. The robot uses differential steering (movement is based on two separately driven wheels placed on either side of the robot body. It can thus change its direction by varying the relative rate of rotation of its tracks).

The motors in the MLT-JR are our IG32 Planetary Gear Motors. The RC kit comes preselected with one High Power Polymer Li-Ion Module 22.2V 3Ah and two 24V 265RPM IG32 motors which allow the robot to travel at a speedy 4.5 ft/sec (~3 mph). Expect a performance like the robot shown in the video below. The development kit comes preselected with one 12V 4500 mAHr NiMH 2x5 Battery Pack and two 24V 53RPM IG32 motors which allow the robot to travel at around 1 ft/sec (~.7 mph), a more appropriate speed for an autonomous robot. Of course, each of these kits can be configured how ever you would like it. Another option is to use two 12V 4500 mAHr NiMH 2x5 Battery Packs which allow the for the use of the faster and more powerful 24V motors and offer a little more runtime than the High Power Polymer Li-Ion Module 22.2V 3Ah. These battery packs, however, take up more space and add more weight. Be sure to select the appropriate motors for the batteries you select. For example, if you select a 24V battery option you should also select a 24V motor option.
